Treachery

undivided

The choices and consequences are clear. Rely on people alone, and life will be tough and brutish. Rely on the one True God, and life will be rich and productive. The heart is most devious and incurably sick. Who can understand it? It is I, the Eternal One, who probes the innermost heart and examines the innermost thoughts. I will compensate each person justly, according to his ways and by what his actions deserve. Jeremiah 17:9-11 The Voice

Treacherous Hearts

Could our hearts be a treacherous place? We don’t like to think that is so, but it is, especially when we are going our own way, apart from God. Can we truly know it? Our heart? Treacherous: likely to betray trust : unreliable; providing insecure footing or support; marked by hidden dangers, hazards, or perils. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/treacherous

Wisdom, as James understands it, is the ability to live life well and make good decisions. Wisdom doesn’t come from old age or hard knocks. Wisdom begins with knowing and depending absolutely on God, who is never stingy when it comes to wisdom for those who seek it. He supplies all the wisdom we need when we ask. But when we try to go it alone—without God—trouble is around the corner. The key is that your request be anchored by your single-minded commitment to God. Those who depend only on their own judgment are like those lost on the seas, carried away by any wave or picked up by any wind. Those adrift on their own wisdom shouldn’t assume the Lord will rescue them or bring them anything. The splinter of divided loyalty shatters your compass and leaves you dizzy and confused. James 1:6-8 Commentary The Voice

Double-Minded Treachery

Treacherous is a word for a double minded person who is unfaithful in all their ways. We could even say our heart is treacherous at times. We can be disloyal and deceitful at times. Our heart needs to be “fleshed out” continuously. That is why God has told us that we need His Word, we need a daily diet of it because it reaches farther than anything could ever reach and it punches through the masked deceit and pierces the layered places of our heart with light, those dark places that have a tendency to be very treacherous.

The word of God, you see, is alive and moving; sharper than a double-edged sword; piercing the divide between soul and spirit, joints and marrow; able to judge the thoughts and will of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Treachery Trumped

The Word of God is a powerful thing, more than we can even begin to imagine, it reaches deeper into our heart than anything or anyone can. It can even shine the light of truth on the will of our heart. Amazing and miraculous. We need to submit our lives to the power of the Word of God, reading, meditating, memorizing and taking it in daily, letting it be that sharp sword that pierces the darkness of our heart, fleshing it out and leaving a purity of righteousness behind. The Word of God is a bright cleansing light that pierces the dark places of our heart, places we don’t even know are there. The Word is a valuable part of our vital-vertical relationship with God. We need Him, we need His Word.

My son, pay attention to all the words I am telling you. Lean in closer so you may hear all I say. Keep them before you; meditate on them; set them safely in your heart. For those who discover them, they are life. They bring wholeness and healing to their bodies. Above all else, watch over your heart; diligently guard it because from a sincere and pure heart come the good and noble things of life. Proverbs 4:20-23

Lean Into God

When we live for ourselves, we are led into treacherous ways by our hearts that lead us astray. We think we know what we want and we go for it, trampling everyone in our way, sometimes not on purpose, but because our heart can be impulsive in its self-driven pursuit. We make a way for ourselves in whatever way our heart leads us. We truly need to lean into God and hear what He has to say and post a guard on the door of our heart with His wisdom. When we walk with God by His truth alive in us, we will find His way for our lives and it is less treacherous way, that does not lead to death but leads to life. If there is treachery in our heart and it is not fleshed out by God, then it will be lived out of our life. The issues of our life are always reflective of our heart.

Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God. It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in. He paid with Christ’s sacred blood, you know. He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. And this was no afterthought. Even though it has only lately—at the end of the ages—become public knowledge, God always knew he was going to do this for you. It’s because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God. Now that you’ve cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it. Your new life is not like your old life. Your old birth came from mortal sperm; your new birth comes from God’s living Word. Just think: a life conceived by God himself! That’s why the prophet said, The old life is a grass life, its beauty as short-lived as wildflowers; Grass dries up, flowers droop, God’s Word goes on and on forever. This is the Word that conceived the new life in you. 1 Peter 1:18-25 The Message

Undivided Loyalty

Treachery is never found in a heart that is undivided, wholly-holy God’s, because God is constantly in conversation with us, cleansing our heart, nurturing our soul and leading our will. Our vital-vertical relationship is so very important, simply-significantly vital to our heart health and to living life less treacherously so. Making that heart to Heart and spirit to Spirit connection with God, will lean us into His sovereign will and our God adventure will be spent with a deep consciousness of God and His Holy Spirit leading us in the all of our everything.

Train me, God, to walk straight; then I’ll follow your true path. Put me together, one heart and mind; then, undivided, I’ll worship in joyful fear. From the bottom of my heart I thank you, dear Lord; I’ve never kept secret what you’re up to. You’ve always been great toward me—what love! You snatched me from the brink of disaster! God, these bullies have reared their heads! A gang of thugs is after me— and they don’t care a thing about you. But you, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit. So look me in the eye and show kindness, give your servant the strength to go on, save your dear, dear child! Make a show of how much you love me so the bullies who hate me will stand there slack-jawed, As you, God, gently and powerfully put me back on my feet. Psalm 86:11-17 The Message

Tug Of War

Divided hearts lead to treacherous life path’s that are broad and undefined, with not much clarity to keep us from falling into the enemies traps. Being led by our own heart is dangerous because it is divided by the treachery of this world that tugs at our flesh at times. Yet being led by God’s undivided heart is perfect in purpose and power and when we are vitally-vertically connected to God, He wins the tug of war. We will always think we are doing the right thing, but most of the wrong we will do begins with thinking that we are right. God knows the right thing for us. Our hearts can’t lead us in all the right ways, we are but flesh, and they lean naturally into this world and its broad path, but our spirit is God’s and He has planted the seed of eternity in our hearts. Only God can nurture us and grow us, digging our life roots deeply in His Kingdom, leading us home on that narrow path with Him.
