The Groomsman

He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the groomsman who stands by and listens to him rejoices greatly and heartily on account of the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my pleasure and joy, and it is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease. He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so. Amplified Bible John 3:29-30

You Are A Groomsman

The Bridegroom’s Voice introduces a new devotional thought pattern, taken from a viewpoint of a traditional wedding ceremony, giving you a front row seat of God’s kingdom perspective of a “groomsman”! I think you will like it. Groomsman!

What? Who? Are You?

What is a groomsman? Who is a groomsman? Are you a groomsman? We live in exciting times and God is speaking daily, are you close enough to hear The Bridegroom’s Voice? I suggest that you step into your role of groomsman. What does that mean? Well, listen up, I will explain it to you.

When a bridegroom becomes engaged to be married, there is a lot to be done to prepare for the wedding day. One of the first things the bridegroom does is pick a groomsman. Yes, a groomsman, this is you, His best man. In a traditional wedding, the bridegroom always has a groomsman, a person listening to the bridegroom’s plans, writing them down and then carrying them out perfectly according to the bridegroom’s wishes. The bridegroom wants your ear, your undivided attention, He is speaking and He wants you to help Him with His wedding preparations.

The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete. Net Bible John 3:29-30

Characteristic Of A Groomsman

The groomsman supports the groom before the wedding, just as we need to be Jesus’ best man. Jesus is the groom, we are His Bride, collectively. But symbolically from a traditional wedding point of view, individually, we stand as groomsmen, in a special relationship with Jesus, we are His best man, listening to the Bridegroom, supporting Him and helping Him prepare for His wedding day.

“The groom is the person to whom the bride belongs. The best man, who stands and listens to him, is overjoyed when the groom speaks. This is the joy that I feel. GOD’S WORD® Translation John 3:29-30

A Groomsman Is A Servant-Leader

As Jesus’ groomsman, it is our job to rally up other groomsmen to come around Him in support of His wedding. The groomsman are great listeners, who have let go of their personal agendas and are all in with the Bridegroom’s will. The groomsman lead the other attendants in the wedding as a servant-leader. The groomsman is constantly listening to the Bridegroom’s instructions and making sure that everyone is unified in helping to get ready for the wedding.

A Groomsman Is A Teachable Servant

As a groomsman, we write down the Bridegroom’s specific instructions and we work them out in His name, purposefully making a way for His wedding day plans to happen, just as He has planned them. We are the loyal friend of the bridegroom, we are His groomsman and as we listen to Him, we learn from Him and we rejoice with great inner joy because of His Voice, as we become an integral part of His wedding preparation.

A Groomsman is Selfless

With our undivided heart, we have heard exactly what the Bridegroom wants and we know the Bridegroom’s heart and what He desires for His wedding day. The Bridegroom equips us with His specific wisdom and we serve only His intentions.  We put aside our personal opinions and His way is first as we, His faithful groomsmen represent Him completely.

If you are confused, consider this: the groom is the one with the bride. The best man takes his place close by and listens for him. When he hears the voice of the groom, he is swept up in the joy of the moment. So hear me. My joy could not be more complete. He, the groom, must take center stage; and I, the best man, must step to His side. John 3:29-30 The Voice

Being A Groomsman – Keeping A Groomsman’s Journal

It is an honor to be selected as one of the Bridegroom’s groomsmen and we respond by listening wholeheartedly and standing by Him. We have the great privilege of helping the Bridegroom make a way for the plans of His Wedding to happen, just as He has asked as we lean into the sway of the Bridegroom’s will. Being the Bridegroom’s groomsman, our joy is full, especially when we usher in people for the wedding day. Humbly we know we were chosen to be in close relationship to the Bridegroom, hear His Voice clearly and listen intimately to the Groom. Not wanting to forget any of this experience, we keep a groomsman’s journal, so we can specifically, purposefully and with great accuracy, carry out and serve the true intent of the Bridegroom’s wedding plans for Him and His Bride.

He who has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom who stands and listens for him rejoices with great joy because of the voice of the bridegroom. Therefore this, my joy, behold, it is full. Aramaic Bible in Plain English

The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”
John 3:29-30 New International Version
