Sunday Glean 8-7-16

God Is Speaking~We Are Gathering Food For Our Souls

We hear many messages during the week, God is always speaking to us. God is speaking all the time, in fact we can have an abundance of soul food nourishing us daily if we listen up. The time God knows we will be listening to Him is our weekly church service. The messages from God at our churches are always so amazing. We glean every weekend in our churches. We gather food for our soul. I gleaned a lot this weekend. God loves to lavish us abundantly with everything we need to be strong, energetic and faith filled in our spirit and soul.

Sunday, August 7th, 2016 I Gleaned From A Message By Pastor Stacey Harris At Trinity Of Fairview Church

John 1:1-5 Prologue: Christ, the Eternal Word.  In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. New Living Testament

Hope Gleaned

Oh did I glean some incredible hope from Pastor Stacey Harris message on Sunday? YES! I did. It was all in one word, NEVER. I love that word in context in the Word that Pastor Stacey shared:

The Light Shines In The Darkness, And The Darkness Can NEVER Extinguish It. John 1:5

How about that incredible treasure nugget of hope? Great! I loved it and it has stuck in my spirit. Never Extinguished by the darkness is our living Word and life of Jesus. Well, let me back up a bit, because that is not where Pastor Stacey started His message.

The Name Of Jesus

It was kind of cool that Pastor Stacey began with the name of Jesus, the name that is above all names. He asked us all to speak out what comes to our mind when we hear the name of Jesus. There were so many shouted out, but I thought: Faithful, Consistent, Stable, Strength, Love, Friend, Forgiveness, Authority, In Control, Hope, Peace, oh my goodness we could fill this page, couldn’t we.

“The more you know about the name of Jesus, the more fully you live out your call in this life.” Pastor Stacey Harris

Jesus Is Involved

Pastor Stacey brought out a point from this scripture that I loved and need to be reminded of daily. When he read that all things were made by God, we see that God has never, there is that word again, NEVER been a casual observer of our lives. God is and always was involved. Look at the wonder of creation and let it sink in your soul that God was not a bystander, He was all in with us from the beginning and still is all in with us. God is involved.

“Jesus saw to the creation of the world Himself, He was not a casual observer, Jesus was involved from stem to stern.” Pastor Stacey Harris

Gnosticism was perhaps the most dangerous heresy that threatened the early church during the first three centuries. Influenced by such philosophers as Plato, Gnosticism is based on two false premises. First, it espouses a dualism regarding spirit and matter. Gnostics assert that matter is inherently evil and spirit is good. As a result of this presupposition, Gnostics believe anything done in the body, even the grossest sin, has no meaning because real life exists in the spirit realm only. Second, Gnostics claim to possess an elevated knowledge, a “higher truth” known only to a certain few. Gnosticism comes from the Greek word gnosis which means “to know.” Gnostics claim to possess a higher knowledge, not from the Bible, but acquired on some mystical higher plane of existence. Gnostics see themselves as a privileged class elevated above everybody else by their higher, deeper knowledge of God.” Written By: www.gotquestions.org

Nonsense Cleared Up

Pastor Stacey explained to us about Gnosticism and how they believe God could not have created this world and in light of the scripture above, Pastor Stacy said to the Gnosticism theory: “Hogwash”, a good North Carolina term. Also known as worthless, false, ridiculous nonsense. The scripture in 1 John 1-5 does clear up that untruth perfectly. All things were made by God.

Colossians 1:17 And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.

“When you say the name of Jesus, you are saying an involved name. God is with us now.” Pastor Stacey Harris

Why Do We Worry?

Pastor Stacey pinpointed our human tendency to worry. We all have that human condition that worries about things. But why? Why do we worry? God is involved with us, God is with us now. When we look at what God created and how He maintains His Creation daily, we should have no worries. If God cares for His creation, then how much more important are you. Listen Up:

Matthew 6: 25-27 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? NLT

Live With Confidence

Pastor Stacey illuminated this verse of scripture by pointing out that God was with us right now, in this moment and every moment ahead. We should live with confidence, knowing the name of Jesus is an involved name. Good, bad or indifferent, God is all in with us.

Jesus Is Indispensable

Let’s take it one step farther, this is a good Sunday glean from this message: Jesus is indispensable, without Him there is nothing. Yes, in this creative process we are looking at in John 1:1-5, without Jesus there is nothing. Pastor Stacey then told us to fill in the blank:

If there is no Jesus, then there is no ______________. If God did not make it, it did not exist. If there is no Jesus, the Only Begotten Son of God, then everything we know and undertake is a waste. Life makes no sense without Jesus. Pastor Stacey Harris

Without Jesus Life Is…

Yes as Pastor Stacey went on to say that Jesus brings flavor and meaning to our lives. Without Jesus life would be dormant and tasteless. When you think of what or who you can’t do without in this life is one of your thoughts, Jesus?

Jesus Is Illuminating

Looking at verses 4-5, Pastor Stacey brought out just how much the name of Jesus is illuminating. His life and the light of His life are two connected things.

  • Jesus is a revealing light so we can see what is around us and He reveals spiritual darkness.
  • Jesus is a guiding light, He is the lamp to our feet, our Way-Maker God.
  • Jesus is our overcoming light, we were all born spiritually dead and dark, it was Jesus brought life and light to our lives.

Never Extinguished

Pastor Stacey then illuminated the great truth found in verse 5 of the first chapter of John. It is a hope giver because it basically speaks a truth that we all need to hear in these dark times. In fact the whole message spoke hope. God is with us, ow. God is for us, now, God’s Light illuminates our darkness and it will NEVER be put out. It shines on into our forever. Darkness has no chance of extinguishing the Light of Jesus, the Light of God in this world. God’s love is illuminated right now and forever.

Our Responsibility Is To Shine

Pastor Stacey gave us hope about this season our country is in. He said we don’t need to slink into the darkness. No! God is asking us to shine powerfully. Jesus is an illuminating name and our responsibility is to SHINE. Let the name of Jesus illuminate in your and through you.

The Name Of Jesus Overpowers Darkness

Pastor Stacey closed with these thoughts about how the name of Jesus is an illuminated name and it overturns darkness and sets us free. We need to yield ourselves to the light of Jesus that will overpower the darkness always and forever. Pastor Stacey then prayed for us that the Holy Spirit would teach us the value of the name of Jesus and He prayed we would continue to be people who bring glory and honor to Jesus. Illuminate Jesus!

John 1:10-12 Jesus as the Light does not call out from a distant place but draws near by coming into the world. He entered our world, a world He made; yet the world did not recognize Him. Even though He came to His own people, they refused to listen and receive Him. But for all who did receive and trust in Him, He gave them the right to be reborn as children of God;
